Long a paradise for golfers and home to nine separate courses, Crossville also is home to the world-renowned Cumberland County Playhouse, Cumberland Mountain State Park and the historic Palace Theatre on Main Street. Crossville residents also take part in the annual World’s Longest Yard Sale on Highway 127 North. The trip to this charming town takes you into the Central time zone, where there are as many things to do as there are reasons not to do much at all.

More than 165,000 people journey to this entertainment mecca each year, and more than 80 percent of TripAdvisor reviewers called it “excellent.” From performances of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Little Mermaid” to “Legally Blonde” and Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap,” you’re sure to find something to keep the family entertained within each season’s lineup of shows.
Military Memorial Museum

This small museum, located in one of Crossville’s oldest buildings, is packed with memorabilia, including personal items, letters, medals and artifacts ranging from the Civil War to the present day. There’s even a diorama of a World War II prisoner of war camp that was in the city. Visitors say the docents are very helpful and informative, and you can take a tour or just wander through by yourself. There’s no charge for admission, but donations are welcome. The museum is open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. weekdays and other times by appointment.
Cumberland Mountain State Park

This park has everything a family could want — lots of hiking trails, picnic spots, fishing, boating, swimming, horseshoes and basketball over 1,720 acres. There’s also the top-rated Jack Nicklaus-designed Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain Golf Course, which incorporates some of the park’s natural features. The sprawling lake was created by a dam built during the Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Visitors rave about the on-site restaurant’s daily buffets and dining with a view of the water.

 Model Railroad Exhibit
The city also boasts a sizable model railroad exhibit set up by the Crossville Model Railroad Club located at 228 Interstate Drive in the north wing of the Crossville, Tennessee Outlet Mall. Call 1-931-210-5050.

Featuring Italian-American cuisine, Forte’s draws raves from travelers for items including Parmesan-encrusted New York strip steak, grouper, and Chicken Mediterranean. It’s located in a restored brick building, the interior has a cozy cafe vibe. When it’s very crowded, diners say it can get a little noisy — but it’s more than worth it. Try the cheesecake for dessert.

This pub and wine bar features American food, sushi and vegetarian-friendly fare. Visitors cite a five-star atmosphere and friendly service. It’s a hip option, especially for the younger crowd. From the shrimp-and-grits to the bacon-cheese-barbecue burger, there’s something for everyone, including a great selection of microbrewed beers.
